Deductify is built privacy-first. Your receipts, amounts, and tax records are created and stored on your device — they are never uploaded to us. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not collect.
Deductify (the “App”) is operated by Noah Moller (“we”, “us”, “our”). If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at deductify@noahmoller.com.
This policy applies to the Deductify iOS app and its widgets. It is written to reflect the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the EU/UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) where they apply to you.
Deductify does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email address, or phone number. We do not ask for or store any information that directly identifies you. Where an anonymous, randomly generated identifier is used (for analytics and to run your subscription), it is not linked to your real-world identity.
The core of Deductify works entirely on your device. The following are created and stored locally in the app’s private storage and are not transmitted to us or any third party:
On-device processing. Receipt text recognition (OCR) uses Apple’s on-device Vision framework, and receipt categorisation uses Apple Intelligence (Apple’s on-device Foundation Models). This analysis happens on your device. Your receipt images and their contents are not sent to us, to Apple’s servers, or to any external AI service for this processing.
Deductify may use Apple’s iCloud to back up and sync your Deductify data across your own Apple devices. If enabled, this uses your own private iCloud account and is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. Your data is stored in your iCloud, which we cannot access. You can turn iCloud on or off for Deductify in the iOS Settings app.
A limited amount of non-sensitive information is shared with the services below so the App can function and improve. This never includes your receipt contents, merchants, amounts (as exact figures), notes, occupation, or locations.
To understand how the App is used and to fix problems, we collect anonymous usage and diagnostic events through PostHog (hosted in the United States). This includes things like which features are used, whether a scan succeeded, your app version, and your device language and region. Strong safeguards apply:
You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous analytics inside the App.
If you purchase Deductify Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple. We use RevenueCat (hosted in the United States) to validate purchases and manage your subscription status. The information shared is purchase and App Store receipt data associated with an anonymous identifier — not your payment card, which is handled solely by Apple and never seen by us.
When you type a start or end address for a trip, that address text is sent to Apple Maps to provide autocomplete suggestions and to calculate the driving distance. Deductify does not request or use your device’s GPS location. These requests are handled under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Camera | To scan paper receipts. Images are processed on-device and saved only to your Deductify library. |
| Calendar (read-only) | To suggest work trips that match your receipts. Deductify only reads events — nothing is ever written to your calendar. |
| Photos | When you choose to import a receipt image, iOS shares only the photo you pick. Deductify has no ongoing access to your photo library. |
You can review or revoke any of these in the iOS Settings app at any time.
Because your records live on your device (and in your own iCloud if enabled), you are in control:
Your data is protected by the security features built into iOS, including device encryption and app sandboxing. Information transmitted to the services listed above is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
Deductify is a tax and finance tool intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing. Because Deductify stores your records on your device and uses only anonymous identifiers elsewhere, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the App. For anything else, contact deductify@noahmoller.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
The services that may process limited information on our behalf are:
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the App. Your continued use of Deductify after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
